Who's who?

I became a Christian around the age of 10 at the Church I grew up in Berkshire. Through the faithful teaching of Church youth leaders, I came to understand the uniqueness of the person of Jesus and the transforming power of his gospel. Having previously served as a youth pastor and then as an assistant pastor in Hertfordshire we moved as a family to Leeds in 2020. I love the Church family here at REC and it’s a privilege to serve. In my spare time you’ll find me drinking coffee, playing/coaching football or listening to music.   I became a Christian soon after arriving at University.  Although brought up in a Christian home, I had not understood the gospel until I met people from the Christian Union at Durham.  Since then I have been involved in various ways in Christian service, through City Evangelical Church in Leeds, Young Life and United Beach Missions, and owe a lot to numerous godly Christians who patiently taught by word and example.

I worked for Leeds City Council in the traffic lights department until my retirement a few years ago.

I am married to Clare.

I have been attending REC since it started in 2007 along with my wife and now 3 kids.  REC has become like an extended family to us and we have been blessed by the friendships, teaching and chance to serve God together.

I had a basic belief in God as a child but it wasn’t until I was 19 that I really committed myself to following Jesus after a family bereavement. It made me realise that the only real hope is Jesus, in the face of death.

In time I have come to realise more and more that the only real life can be found in Him too.  Life still has its ups and downs, but it is wonderful to know that when my boat starts to rock in the storm, I have a great Captain whose hand guides me.

I was taken to church as a child and one year my Sunday School prize for attendance was the ‘The Tanglewoods Secret’ by Patricia St John. At the age of 7 this story had a profound effect on me, and like Ruth in the story, I asked the Good Shepherd to find me and welcome me as one of His sheep. My progress along the way has been slow and steady, but since joining REC as one of the founding members, the teaching has been a solid foundation for my faith today. I’ve had to learn a lot practically, but with much help from others, I am now responsible for operating the laptop, and the audio-visual equipment.  This has enabled me to stay in the background where I am always more comfortable! I praise God for His amazing patience with me, and pray He will continue to guide me.

My background is in nursing and I spent most of my career working as a midwife on a neonatal unit. After I retired from the NHS, I worked for 3 years in a Hospice where I had the privilege of working alongside families as they negotiated the final hurdle with their loved ones at the end of life.

Though being in church most of my life, I didn't become a Christian until my first year of university when I understood that God was a Father ready to love and not a Judge ready to convict. This immediately changed my life and continues to change me daily - in my relationships, my work, and my understanding of how God continues to see me. While still living in the US, there was a clarifying call to ministry which led me to complete my MDiv where I met my wife who was also getting her MDiv. Since then, we have worked among university students in Kansas City, Colorado, and finally Leeds. Our family, now including two teenagers, moved to Leeds in 2012 where we have been involved in various church and university ministries. We joined Roundhay Evangelical Church in 2023 and enjoy being actively part of the community and utilising our gifts.
One passion is to allow individuals space to explore the Bible, learn what it means, and discuss how the principles apply to our lives. While also being a Christian Chaplain at Leeds Beckett University and University of Leeds, currently I am Team Leader for a mission agency who has ministry workers across the East Midlands and North of England.
My other passions include history, BBQ and coffee. As a rugby league fan, moving to Roundhay has also brought cricket and potentially football as sports that I try to follow.
